Term 2 always seems to pass quickly with an emphasis on sporting events such as the Cross Country and Athletic Carnivals as well as teams playing in the knockout comps for soccer and Rugby League. As a result, the children have had lots of physical activity to balance the more mental learning activities that fill our school days.
This term we welcomed our new member of staff, Geraldine Kerr who replaced Mrs Short following her resignation. Geraldine was very pleased to join us as she was teaching in Grafton and travelling from Tuntable Creek.
Our students and parents enjoyed a Disco night on Friday 23 rd May at Tullera Hall to celebrate Education Week followed by an open day on Wednesday 28th. Visitors wandered into classrooms, observed the students doing their daily fitness program and enjoyed a morning tea served by Year 6. The Kinder Year 1 assembly concluded the day’s events.
The P & C’s Monster Garage Sale held on the long weekend was a great success with the school benefiting due to making over $1,000 from sales. It was also a pleasant social day with a good rollup of lookers and buyers. Previously the P & C dads had extended the awning over to the canteen and put new seating under the fig tree in the playground area which has been much appreciated by the children especially in wet weather.
Fourteen of our students ran in the Zone Cross Country in May and put in a great effort . Congratulations went to Anna Leeza Hull, Elyse Goulding, Maddison Fiedler, Joel Goulding and Maddison Smith who were successful in gaining places and represented Northern Rivers at the Regional Carnival at Murwillumbah.
Term 2 is also important for Year 3 and Year 5 students as they have to sit for their National Assessment Tests, previously called the Basic Skills Tests. They give teachers and parents a comparison on the students progress in Mathematics and Language skills with the National average which highlights both strengths and weaknesses.
On the fun side, the children have enjoyed a fun day in Lismore at the movies and Year 3-4s spent a great day at Protesters Falls
Vacation Care kids have been taking over the school during these and the previous holiday, doing fun activities like crafts, cooking and sports. If your child is bored this holiday, they may like to join in during the next holiday break. You can enquire by calling Gail on 0458 486 126 or the Lismore office of Vacation Care on 6621 6437.
With the break nearly over and Term 3 beginning we’ll look forward to another productive learning few months with some exciting activities and events such as the Olympics ahead.
