Mellow Yellows Belie Their Name And Thrash The Field To Win The Day!

MELLOW YELLOW:  Team members from front row, Patty McGee, Lyn Black back row Nancy Tarlinton, Louise Maher, Janelle Pringle, Karen Phillips

It took a few years of dedicated commitment from some local individuals and the Viking Futsal Association’s people but finally a women’s competition was up and running smoothly (and professionally) in TWO venues - Woodlawn and SCU - there were enough teams FINALLY to make two division!

Anitra Wendren who is an intregal member of the team but unfortunately couldn’t make the finals.

So, that in itself was a GREAT success - the icing on the cake really was the fact that the “older” ladies WON the grand final.  We (as a team) had been persevering through the ups and downs of just getting this futsal comp started and finally we had GREAT teams to play against and we learned ALOT along the way in the form of team-work... FUN... ball skills... stamina... and LAUGHING OUT LOUD ALOT!!!  In the end we were up against a MUCH younger and MUCH fitter team - but old age and treachery won in the end... not really... we ALL believe that it was due to our name - we really played like our name said “Mellow Yellow” and did not get flustered - cranky - or in anyway stressed - we really were MELLOW in the end and that paid off (not to mention our fantastic goalie!! Lyn Black!!) The grand final was a nail bitter and went into overtime 1-1 and it was gold in goal and the Dunoon Mature Mellow Yellows got that first/last goal!!
