Five weeks ago a famous birth took place in Taronga Zoo in Sydney. It was a baby gorilla. Mother and baby are doing well. In the weeks following the birth, The Daily Telegraph and Cumberland Newspapers ran a competition to name the baby.
Competition entrants had a choice of nine Swahili words and FUZU proved to be the most popular – it means ‘to succeed or win’. Those who chose the name “Fuzu” went into a draw to win a Taronga Zoo parent sponsorship and an exclusive tour of the gorilla enclosure. Hayley Muller WON the competition!!
Hayley and her mother, Joy, will probably journey down to Sydney during the next school holidays to visit the baby. Hayley is now very proud of the fact that she now has three children – her Cat (Taj), her Dog (Jack) and her Gorilla (Fuzu) - and they’re all BOYS!
