It’s some time since I’ve updated the community about what’s happening at the Grass.
We’ve continued to have our monthly workdays, on the first Sunday of the month. These have been good in allowing us to gain an understanding of the cycles that occur over the year. We’ve now got on top of the Setaria spots through going back and hand weeding after the initial spraying. There are still seedlings coming up but these can be controlled. Setaria will always be an issue as it becomes more and more established in the surrounding properties.
On Tuesday January 22nd 20 local residents attended an information evening at Dunoon Sports Club hosted by Des Boorman and Kim Curtis from North Coast Weeds. The topic was the invasive weed Mysore Thorn (Caesalpinia decapetala). This is rampant in the Lismore shire and is of high density in the creeks and rainforest areas from Dunoon down towards Corndale.
Hello to all Residents and Landcarers,
Whian Whian Landcare has a busy year ahead. February marks the beginning of a 6 month Green Corps program working on Branch Creek. The goals of this project include restoration of 8 sites along the creek through weed removal and native tree planting, assessing the creeks water quality, continuing to monitor native and feral animal populations and improve habitat for native animals. There will be an official launch of the program on Tuesday 19th of February at the Whian Whian Hall. All Whian Whian residents are welcome.
At the beginning of December, we invited the ladies of the other Churches in Dunoon to join our Guild for a Christmas luncheon. Unfortunately, we had chosen a time that wasn’t suitable for a lot of people, and, consequently, we had very few starters. We changed the time and the format to include our husbands and held a dinner in the evening. Colin, at Dunoon Club, did us proud and we enjoyed a good meal and a great deal of good fellowship with our fellows from the Catholic as well as the Presbyterian Church.
Our Guild meetings will commence once again for 2008 on Wednesday 6th February. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm. Anyone is welcome to join.

Those are the words my mum kept telling me every night from age 4 to 18 when she would find me reading by any faint light that threaded its way into my bedroom well after the time she had declared “light’s out!”. They are also the word’s one of the Pope’s apparently used frequently in regards to premarital sex – according to Hey Hey It’s Saturday anyway..
