It has been a busy start to the term with the establishment of a new learning area in our old residence to accommodate the Infants class due to the removal of our demountable. This learning area will allow us to maintain two classes, four days a week without hindering our library and computer programs and therefore allows us to provide the optimal educational environment for our students.
We would like to thank Frigid-Air for donating an air conditioning unit (including its installation) for the new area which will mean that the K/1/2 class will be toasty warm this coming winter and cool as cucumbers in the summer.
New Playground
We have taken delivery of our new playground which was made possible through a grant from the Investing in Our Schools Program. The construction phase is completed and we are now only waiting on the rubberised soft fall. The new playground equipment adjoins our other play structure and will enhance the health and well-being of our students. We anticipate that by Monday 26th May there will be 23 lively and excited children testing out the new playground.
Possum Predicament
One of our Silky Oaks has had to be removed as it was deemed dangerous. Unfortunately our local wildlife, a possum who has resided at the school for many years, had taken up residence in the hollow of the tree.
WIRES was contacted and our possum was captured and is currently holidaying with a carer. The hollow of the tree has been rescued and will be attached to another Silky Oak in the school grounds so that our resident possum can return to his territory and maintain his lifestyle in the Corndale School surrounds. Many thanks to Dynosaur Tree Services for their support and expertise in preserving our wildlife habitat.
Cross Country Carnival
Last Friday saw 6 local schools congregate at Corndale for the Dunoon PSSA Cross Country Carnival. We were blessed with great weather, eager runners, supportive spectators and a wonderful canteen put on by the Corndale P & C Association. Next year will mark 20 years of cross country at Corndale so we are planning something special to mark the occasion.
Life Education Visit
Healthy Harold and the Life Education van will be visiting Corndale PS on Thursday 22nd May to talk to the children about a variety of topics relating to healthy food choices, personal safety, peer influence and friendship, importance of physical activity, not smoking and refusal skills. Students from Tuntable Creek and Whian Whian schools will be joining us for the day.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Corndale Public School’s Student Council are inviting members of the community to their morning tea to be held at Corndale Public School on Thursday 29th May from 11am. Cost for the morning tea will be a gold coin donation with all monies raised going to The Cancer Council. The students will also be running a Jelly Bean Guessing Competition to boost their fund raising. Guesses will be 20c each or 3 guesses for 50c. If you can spare some time come along and help us help those suffering from the effects of cancer.
Help the Environment
As part of the school’s environmental program, Corndale School is currently registered with Mobile Muster and the Lismore City Council Battery Collection Program.
Mobile Muster
If you have any unused mobile phones, including their batteries and accessories just drop them into the school so they can be sent off for dismantling and recycling.
Battery Collection Program
Similarly if you have old dry cell batteries sitting in draws and cupboards at home drop them off at the school for collection by the LCC.
