A Bright Future Ahead At Oxford University For Alexandra

Way back in 1991 when a little curly haired 4 year old started in Kindy at Dunoon School, who would have thought that the education that started there would finish in arguably the most prestigious and best University in the World.
We found out a few weeks ago that Alexandra Murray had been awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to go to England to study and then this week she received official notification that she has been accepted into the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford ‘to read for the DPhil’.
As I said before, she began her education at Dunoon School which was, at that time, headed by Brian Marsh (who is Alexandra’s favourite teacher of all time). She graduated from there in 1997 as dux of the school and continued her education at Trinity College in Lismore. After six years at Trinity, and having been awarded The Trinity Cup, she moved on to the University of Sydney at the age of seventeen. During her four years at university she has maintained a High Distinction average every year and has been awarded many scholarships and merits, too numerous to mention. At the end of last year she completed her Bachelor of Psychology Degree with First Class Honours. She was even short listed for a Rhodes Scholarship, but primarily because she was only 21yrs old, she missed out.

The Commonwealth Scholarship which Alexandra has won is awarded by a Selection Committee in London who chooses candidates from all over the Commonwealth (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India etc) to study within the United Kingdom. The process has been long and hard. The first round was to be selected by the University of Sydney, afterwards, the selected applicants files were forwarded to Canberra. The Selection Board there chose sixteen candidates from the whole of Australia and these sixteen were forwarded to London, where the final decisions were made.
We all feel so proud of Alexandra and we wish her every success for the future.
