People who are interested in the care and conservation of local wildlife are encouraged to attend an upcoming training day being organised by the Northern Rivers Wildlife Carers.
The Northern Rivers is home to a diverse range of native animals; everything from rainforest pigeons, echidnas, rare possums and gliders and large wedge-tailed eagles. The region also has one of the fastest population growth rates in the state.

Local IT expert Patrick (Paddy) Curley from NightCap Media has been working hard setting up our new website for the Gazette. Now people from all over Australia and internationally can view the Gazette online.
All sections of the printed Gazette, including this current edition, appear on the easy to navigate site. Earlier editions are archived, currently the Tornado issue and the Feb/March 08 issue are both online with more to come.
One great advantage of a community paper being online is that now you aren’t limited to just reading stories you can contribute to them as well. Every article has a feature that will allow readers to leave comments online, transforming static pages into ongoing discussions.

Sad Day.

Dear Editor,
Council recently undertook road repairs just up over the crest of the hill North of Fraser Road. They took down a sign I had erected a few years ago – ‘Concealed Driveway Over Crest’. I went to a lot of trouble to get the sign erected with a signed petition from over 50 residents, neighbours and farm workers. The entrance to my residence is extremely dangerous when cars, 4 x 4’s and trucks come hurtling over the hill towards Dunoon village. I have nearly been cleaned up several times.

Close to 100 local district residents attended Lismore City Council’s (LCC) Rural Forum at Dunoon Hall on Monday 17th March. Councillors attending were: Merv King (Mayor), Jenny Dowell, David Tomlinson, Brian Henry, Graham Meineke and Barry Crimmins. Also attending from Council Staff were Paul O’Sullivan (General Manager), Chris Soulsby (Planner) and Helen Manning (Manager of Planning Services).

Way back in 1991 when a little curly haired 4 year old started in Kindy at Dunoon School, who would have thought that the education that started there would finish in arguably the most prestigious and best University in the World.
We found out a few weeks ago that Alexandra Murray had been awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to go to England to study and then this week she received official notification that she has been accepted into the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford ‘to read for the DPhil’.

A double wedding took place at “Bunaby” Dunoon at the residence of Mr. Gavin Arthur, on Wednesday last 15th instant (1905), the contracting parties being Mr. William Arthur, eldest son of Mr. Garvin Arthur, and Miss Ivy Louisa King, daughter of Mr. Benjamin King; also Mr. Leslie Gaggin and Miss Hannah Arthur, second daughter of Mr. Gavin Arthur.
Mr. Amos Arthur acted as best man, and Miss Ethel Garrett bridesmaid for the former and Mr. Herbert Arthur best man and Miss Jane Arthur bridesmaid for the latter. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. Laverty (Clunes). Miss King was given away by her brother, Mr. Leslie King and Miss Arthur by her father.

Some of you may have seen the term ‘Web 2.0’ in your travels around cyberspace accompanied by, like so many other things on the web, an implicit assumption that you know exactly what that means. ‘What happened to Web 1.0?’ you may have asked?
The web was initially a way for computer geeks to talk to each other and share information on each others computers. It was very complicated and very boring. Then a commercial use was found for it and it became little more than a giant advertising board.
